| MANCHESTER DISCOUNT BEVERAGES; WINE DEPARTMENT The wine selection through the years has grown significantly. In 1981 only a small area of the business was devoted to wine interests. With the many increased fine wines from around the world the department continues to grow ever year. Even though our major focus is the excellent wines from California and the West we have kept pace with wines from France, Spain, Australia, all of South America, and now South Africa. Our major wine buyer and expert Randy Keyes, had traveled to Chile and Argentina in 2009 to investigate some outstanding new as well as established vineyards. These countries represent a strong new addition in the wine business. Every year we attend the Miami International Wine Festival to keep abreast of all the new trends in international market. MDB has through the years received the coveted Wine Enthusiast Award for the Best Wine Shop in Vermont. Although Vermont does not have access to the total wine offerings that are available in some of the larger states in the East, we are proud to say that our “book” can compete with most wine shops anywhere. We have basically six major wholesalers who supply us with great products, vintages, and selections. Using Parker, Wall Street Journal, and Wine Spectator as will as other references we are able4 to supply a sophisticated and varied selection. We offer all customers a 10% Discount on every case of twelve 750 ml bottles (or six 1.5L bottles) mixed to the customers choice. Every March our 10% over wholesale cost brings wine buyers from all over the area to take advantage of this huge sale. Periodic Wine tasting evenings are also part of our service to the wine community where we offer special wines at special prices. Vineyards: The grapes in our Tutunjian Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon wine come from our own 60-hectare vineyard in Tricao in the Curico Valley in Chile, a place with extraordinary natural conditions required for the growth of grapevines. Our entire vineyard is carefully tended with affection and with respect for the natural surroundings. Climate: The Curico Valley has a Mediterranean-style climate with a cold, rainy winter and a warm, dry summer. Marked temperature differences between day and night make an ideal condition for the growth of our grapes. Vinification: The grapes are harvested by hand in April, with care given to select the best bunches of grapes from our 30 year old vines. In order to extract color and aromas the must undergoes skin contact for 3 days at low temperatures. The must is then fermented for 7 days in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts at temperatures ranging from 28º to 30ºC (82º to 86ºF). The wine is then left to macerate for two additional weeks in order to extract its fruity characteristics. After that the wine is aged in oak barrels for 8 to 12 months. Finally, the wine is cellared in bottles for 6 months before its launch on the market. Notes from the winemaker: Our Tutunjian Single Vineyard wine comprises a complex, balanced and robust wine of Cabernet Sauvignon. It is characterized by juicy touches of blackberry and blueberry with a subtle aroma of tobacco and minerals well combined with a delicate layer of oak. | |||||||
