For 100’s of years America's number one adult beverage has been the cold beer.  This drink has transcended every other form of beverage. For years we have debated the origin of beer, who makes the best beers, and where do they come from. Several decades ago the beer business was pretty generic. Bud, Miller, Pabst, and several others large breweries held the overwhelming share of the market. Then came the imports, Heineken, Beck’s, Corona, Guinness, and many more. More choices, more tastes, and more complexity. This opened the door for the new wave of Micro Brews. Every state, had it own brewers competing for local and regional acceptance of it homemade beer or more specifically ale. Vermont alone became known for it Long Trail Ale, Otter Creek Ale, Magic Hat, Rock Art, and perhaps a dozen more. Some have come and gone but the trend towards local small micro breweries has become very popular for the beer lover to sample and enjoy.

With many beer drinkers the “Newest” trend has become collection and sampling of boutique beer items.  Items that are produces as single serves. They are much like the wine businesses individual bottles with different tastes, chemistries, and additives. Oatmeal, chocolate, apricots, blackberry, and even banana are blended into the beer or ale flavor to enhance the product.  For the traditionalist the boutique offering include porters, stouts, pilsners, bocks from all over the world.

At MDB, we became aggressive first the micro brew area and most recently the boutique single serve market. Rusty Kelly and Mark Patulak took over this area and increased it to where we are today. Rusty studies beer journals and reviews bringing in the finest selection available to the Vermont market. His facebook page, for the last year has included the entire selection. Mark, by the way is the official taste tester. (He was 165 lbs when he started, now he is over 200lbs)
